Each day of the school holidays, the joey willtake up residence in the Sydney Wildlife World nursery underthe close watchful eye of Sydney Wildlife World staff.Arriving from Blackbutt Reserve today the joey was namedBluey based on the old Australian slang tradition of calling ared?headed male ‘Blue’ or ‘Bluey’.Visitors will be able to witness Bluey being fed twice a day at11.00am and 2.00pm, hopping in and out of his pouch (aduffel bag lined with a jumper) and resting throughout theday. In the evenings keepers will take Bluey home to ensure heis fed and cared for around the clock.Michael Drinkwater, Mammal Department Supervisor said “Bluey is doing great he’s very alert and really enjoys jumping out of his bag and having a hop around. He’s become a favourite among the keepers and I’m sure he’ll be just as big a hit with the public.”The red?necked wallaby ranges throughout the eastern parts of Australia from the Queensland ? New South Wales border area, right through to South Australia. It is also found in Tasmania.
